This is the back of Anna's house. It's standing and not too badly cracked but the corners have come apart and the kitchen fell. They might use metal plates to "sew" the corners back together.
Other houses in Anna's neighbourhood are on the ground.
Ria's "anti earthquake house". She is using tin from her mother's house to build a shed/house. Once they have this up they will work to clear her mom's house and get a temporary house up for that part of the family. Then they'll start to rebuild.
The local clinic...
But we are seeing people working and building! We heard that there were prefab plywood houses bring brought in... I wonder if this is one of them.
Traditional stiles stood strong.
These photos were taken as we drove by... they are bad but so what so much looks like. I feel funny about standing in a village and taking photo after photo of what used to be people's homes.
But we have a beautiful island!
Traditional houses, the only things left standing.
The government will let people stay in camps like this only up to six months. I hope people start clearing and rebuilding sooner than that.
